CRST Fall Education Consortium: An Evening with SDEEC

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe’s Fall Education Consortium will host An Evening with the South Dakota Education Equity Coalition (SDEEC). This gathering is about building relationships, lifting community voices, and strengthening our collective power for educational sovereignty.

SDEEC will share the story of the Intergovernmental Education Accord — a systemic solution to a systemic problem. The Accord builds a pathway for Tribal Nations and the State of South Dakota to work together in shaping education policy, with all nine Oceti Sakowin Tribes standing in support.

The Potential for Public Charter Schools in South Dakota

Join us for the South Dakota Education Equity Coalition's monthly call! We'll be joined by special guest Charlie Bufalino from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools.

Session Overview

The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools has been conducting diligence and meeting with local partners and elected officials to explore the possibility of passing a public charter schools law in South Dakota. During this presentation, we will provide a brief overview of what public charter schools are and what results they have achieved across the country. In particular, we will share information about charter schools that have served students from tribal populations and produced strong results. We will share our current thinking on a policy framework for a South Dakota charter law, as well as the current state of our advocacy efforts. Finally, we will leave plenty of time for questions and are excited to discuss ways we can work together collaboratively to improve educational outcomes for all South Dakota students.

In Partnership and Purpose: Growing Pathways for Indigenous Educators

RSVP to join the South Dakota Education Equity Coalition for a powerful conversation on the future of Native educator pathways.

Indigenous students deserve to see themselves reflected in the classroom—and that starts with creating real, community-led pathways into teaching.

Join the South Dakota Education Equity Coalition (SDEEC) for a special coalition-wide session with Travis Lape, State Director of Educators Rising South Dakota, as we explore how schools, families, and Tribal education partners can collaborate to support the next generation of Native educators.

This is more than a presentation. It’s a conversation rooted in partnership and purpose.

Together, we’ll discuss:

  • How to build and sustain “Grow Your Own” educator programs in Native communities

  • Ways to engage youth early through hands-on teaching experiences

  • Strategies to uplift and support Indigenous students who are already showing leadership

  • Tools, stories, and insights to guide action and deepen local ownership
